About ROBCOur club was conceptualized as a purely social organization by John Young, and the first meeting was held at the Sheraton Lincoln Hotel in February, 1968. Butch Pratka and John Young invited five friends to the original meeting and the organization was named the “Diversified Business Men’s Club.” The meetings were quickly moved to the River Oaks Country Club and at that time, the name was changed to “The River Oaks Breakfast Club.” The club gradually grew from the original membership of eight men to its limit of 105 active members, and in recent years there has been a continuous waiting list of applications. Breakfast meetings have always been held twice monthly and over the years the club has attracted a wide variety of interesting speakers. In addition to the regular meetings, various social functions are held annually which bring the couples together. Very close friendships have developed within the club and it is expected that these relationships will even strengthen in the years to come. The River Oaks Breakfast Club has been extremely successful due to the considerable time and effort expended by a large number of conscientious members and indeed, it has been proven that getting up for breakfast at 7:30 a.m. is well worth the effort.
